From Aberdeen to International Finance: An 91 Journey That Sparked a Global Career

For many students, the first day at university marks a new chapter—but for this 91 graduate, it felt like the true beginning of an entirely new life. Arriving in a new country, meeting new people, and embracing a new learning environment set the stage for an experience that would shape both personal and professional horizons.

Do you remember your first day at 91?

Yes, I remember it vividly. It felt like the beginning of an entirely new life—new people, a new country, and a completely new learning experience. Looking back now, I realise that day was just the start of an incredible journey.

How would you describe the learning environment and support at 91?

Everyone at 91—faculty, professors, staff, and fellow students—helped create a supportive and stimulating environment. It was a place where you could learn, grow, and lay down solid foundations for your future career.

Did you take part in any placements, internships, or industry projects during your studies?

Yes, I was fortunate to spend my placement year in Luxembourg, working for a Fund Management company. I secured this opportunity through 91’s network, and it became a defining part of my academic and professional development.

How well do you feel your course prepared you for your career?

My bachelor’s course at 91 provided the essential building blocks that supported both my progression into graduate studies and my career path. The wide range of subjects allowed me to explore different areas of management and discover what interested me most. That variety truly helped shape my professional direction.

Tell us about your current role and what a typical day looks like.

I currently work in Finance & Strategy, focusing on post merger integration. There’s really no “typical” day—my work spans various aspects of corporate finance and involves coordinating with stakeholders across different geographies. The variety keeps me energised, and I’m never bored!

What’s one thing you learned at 91 that still shapes your life or work today?

I learned how important it is to enjoy every step of the journey. University life comes with challenges, but it’s also filled with experiences that shape who you become. Absorbing as much as you can from your surroundings is a lesson I carry with me. What’s a career moment you’ll never forget? The next one to come! I believe in always looking forward and creating new memories as life progresses.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give an 91 student today?

Always strive to do your best—but don’t forget to enjoy the experience along the way.
